Pathways will continue to explore the Hebrew Bible - - especially the Torah; Greek Rationalism - - that leads ultimately to
Modernity; and early Christianity - - especially the creation/discovery/revelation of the idea of the Holy Trinity. This textual and
conceptual understanding is required if Pathways is to create a viable Spirituality for the 21st Century.
The overall goal of Pathways is to explore text and practices that will prepare the members to live a righteous life in our time - -
to see the goodness of Nature and to co-create with God a better world.
Textbooks:
In January-June we will add two
books:
- Karen Armstrong, The Bible, the Biography. London: Atlantic
Books, 2007 ISBN 978-1-84354-396-1
- Mark Taylor, After God. Chicago, The University of Chicago Press,
2007 ISBN 978-1-226-79169-2
- The Armstrong book will give a good introduction to how the Bible
can and should be read in a Modern/Post-modern world. Taylor
clarifies what Religion has become in our time, and how Religion
can change to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
- The Psalms from the Bible and the Chinese classic, Tao Te Ching,
will be read together in order to see and understand comparisons and
contrasts between West and East.
